24 Hour Accessible Transport

Phil Caley and Phil Pateman

"Nothing is accessible unless you can get there."

A seven-strong fleet of adapted, fully accessible vehicles transport disabled people to work, doctor's appointments, shopping, holidays and other leisure activities 24 hours a day. We believe this is the only 24 hour a day accessible transport service in the country, and we’re mightily proud of it!

All vehicles are wheelchair accessible and have HAD livery, floor clamping, inertia reel seatbelts and a low rear ramp. Each vehicle can transport up to two wheelchair users and two seated passengers comfortably, plus additional seating for a carer. None say anything about disability - we believe strongly in maintaining the dignity of older and disabled people.

Headed by Transport Manager Phil Caley (pictured above, left, with Driver Philip Pateman), the six-strong team of drivers are friendly and fully trained. They also sport a smart HAD uniform, like the one modelled by Driver Joy Atkinson, below.

We are currently trying to help local rail provider First Capital Connect (FCC) improve their services for disabled and older people. Following a recent Disability Rights Commission survey, FCC plans to form a partnership with us at several local stations including Hatfield, Harpenden, Hitchin and St Albans.
