Counselling by disabled and able-bodied people.
HAD's Counselling Service was formed in 1991 by Counselling Co-ordinator Mike Chick.
The county-wide team includes Mike and Senior Counsellor Denice Reeves. They provide counselling either in the 'quiet room' at The Woodside Centre, in people's homes or at a mutually convenient accessible location. The team is completed by Tracy Oliver, Lorraine McGinlay and Andrew Bartley.
The service is available to people with disabilities, family members and carers and is continually growing and evolving. In the last financial year the service took on 16 new clients. New venues and counsellors are always welcome and the need to keep up-to-date with the latest practices is paramount.
The Counselling Service is an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and regularly attend relevant conferences and lectures.
And although the service is free, an affordable donation is asked for. To this end the Counselling team has recently implemented a Counsellor/Client Agreement Contract.
